Resumen

This study aims to develop the digitization of five prominent educational figures at the Indonesian Education Museum. The chosen form of digitization is Augmented Reality (AR) technology. By utilizing AR, the collections of educational figures such as Ki Hajar Dewantara, KH Ahmad Dahlan, Sri Sultan HB IX, Ki Ageng Suryomentaram, and Dr. Wahidin Soedirohoesodo are packaged into interactive media to enhance the museum’s appeal as both an educational and recreational facility.

The method employed is Research and Development (R&D) using the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The research process began with a needs analysis of users and collections, followed by the design of AR display and interactivity, the development of AR-based media, its implementation within the museum environment, and finally, the evaluation of product effectiveness in improving visitors’ engagement and understanding of the educational figures.

The findings indicate that the application of Augmented Reality (AR) to the collections of five educational figures at the Indonesian Education Museum (MPI) UNY successfully enhanced visitors’ understanding, as evidenced by an increase in students’ pre-test to post-test scores from 55 to 80, along with high satisfaction scores (SUS ranging from 78–88). Qualitatively, visitors reported feeling more engaged, interactive, and motivated. Thus, AR not only increases the attractiveness of the museum but also strengthens its role as a modern learning medium and as a means of cultural preservation in the digital era.
